Education

Students bring a distinctive vitality to any area. Until recently Folkestone
did not have a higher education institution or student life to speak of, but
in 2007 that all changed with the opening of University Centre Folkestone.

University Folkestone Centre is based in the Creative Quarter and offers
innovative degree level courses provided by the University of Greenwich and
Canterbury Christchurch University, mixing arts and media disciplines with
more traditional subjects.

With the ever-rising cost of higher education it’s likely that more and more
students will want to find ways of studying while remaining at home. The new
University Centre gives people in Folkestone and the surrounding area an
important new set of options for their personal and career development.

Folkestone Academy
Improvements to education at every level are at the heart of the shared
regeneration vision. One of the flagship initiatives in Folkestone has been
the creation of the Folkestone Academy, accommodated in a new £38 million
building designed by Foster and Partners. The Academy replaced the Channel
School, which had served some of Folkestone's most deprived communities, and
provides children with transformed educational opportunities, including a
new sixth form.

The Folkestone Academy opened in September 2007 and has made considerable
progress in raising student aspirations and improving academic results, and
creating opportunities for students to go on to university for the first
time.

In 2009 the former Park Farm Primary School merged with the Academy
to form one of the country's first All Age Academies catering for childre
from 5 - 18.
