The Harbour Masterplan
Folkestone harbour and seafront is a natural focal point for the town.
It has lost a sense of identity in recent years, particularly with the end of
the ferry services in 2000 and the decline of the amusement park.
Roger De Haan purchased the Harbour site from Sea Containers in 2004. He
commissioned Foster and Partners to produce a blueprint for the development
of the 35 acre harbour and adjacent seafront site. The resultant masterplan
set out a range of ambitious proposals that could help transform
Folkestone's seafront for the benefit of residents and visitors. Since that
time exploratory work has continued with planning authorities, government
agencies and consultants.
