The Harbour Masterplan
Folkestone harbour and seafront is a natural focal point for the town. It has lost a sense of identity in recent years, particularly with the end of the ferry services and the decline of the fun fair, but there is now a fantastic opportunity to regenerate this space, which has the potential to be one of the most attractive urban seafronts in the South East.
As part of his engagement in the town’s regeneration, and with support from SEEDA and KCC, harbour owner Roger De Haan commissioned a masterplan for the development of the 25 acre harbour and seafront site from Foster & Partners. The masterplan was widely consulted upon in the first half of 2006 and has won overwhelming public support.
It is anticipated that the masterplan will begin to move towards implementation during 2007.
